Sign a PDF in Chrome without uploading it

Most "free PDF signer" sites ask you to upload a contract, a lease or a tax form to their server first. You can sign the same PDF right inside Chrome instead, so the document never leaves your laptop.

Step by step

  1. Install PDF Haven and click its toolbar button. A blank workspace opens in a new tab.
  2. Drag your PDF into the window (or click Choose files).
  3. Open Edit & sign and click Signature. Draw it with your mouse or trackpad, type your name in a handwriting font, or upload a photo of your signature on paper — the white paper background is removed for you.
  4. Click on the page where the signature belongs. Drag it into place and pull the corner to resize.
  5. Add the date with Date, tick boxes with Check, and type anything else with Text.
  6. Click Download PDF. The signed copy is saved straight to your Downloads folder.

Is a drawn signature legally valid?

In many countries (for example under the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation) a simple electronic signature — a drawn or typed signature on a document — is accepted for everyday agreements such as NDAs, leases, timesheets and order forms. Some documents need a qualified or certificate-based digital signature instead. If you are unsure, ask the person who sent you the document what they accept.

Why sign offline?

Contracts contain names, addresses, bank details and prices. Every upload is one more copy on someone else's server, kept for as long as their policy says. Signing locally means there is only one copy: yours.

Save your signature for next time

Tick Save on this computer for next time and your signature is stored in Chrome's local storage on this device only. The free version keeps one saved signature; Pro keeps as many as you like (handy for initials, a second language or a company stamp).
